5 Tips for Showing Up on Social.

I’ve something to confess 😳

Showing up online makes me super nervous.
As a writer, I'm at my most comfortable, behind the scenes, tapping away on my keyboard.
So, as video becomes more and more popular, I've had to give myself a little pep talk.

If you're feeling the same, here are 5 of my top tips for getting started (we can do it together 🙌)

START SMALL- if you're not ready to show yourself fully on camera just yet, consider doing a "behind the scenes" style post. Are you packing orders today or taking part in a virtual event? Take some snaps and video of these processes so your audience can get a better understanding of how you operate.

PLAN IN ADVANCE- the wonderful thing is that your videos don’t have to be live – they can be pre-recorded and saved to your camera roll for later use. This gives you the ability to take and retake the video as many times as you like. Create a script with some key points you'd like to touch on.

BE GENUINE- when you’re talking to the camera, it doesn’t have to be perfect. So what if you say ‘um’ a little more often than most! So what if you stumble your words! You’re only human, and this makes you all the more relatable to your audience!

STICK TO WHAT YOU KNOW- your customers have chosen to follow you for your unique product/ service/content. Avoid the urge to copy what your competitors are doing. Share valuable information or tips, talk about a topic you are passionate about or share your brand's personal story or motivations.

COMMIT TO CONSISTENCY- the hardest part is usually getting started. Showing your face becomes easier the more you do it, which can be aided by committing to a schedule. Start by committing to once or twice per month and increase as your confidence builds.
